Writing Linear Functions Vocabulary
Arithmetic sequence - a sequence made by adding the same value to the previous term
Best fit line - a straight line that best illustrates the overall trend of the data
Correlation coefficient - the measure of the strength of a linear relationship between two variables
Linear function - any function that graphs to a straight line
Linear regression - the technique for finding the best fit line
Linear relationship - relationship where the independent variable is multiplied by a coefficient and added by a constant to determine the dependent variable
Point slope form - a linear equation in the form \(y - y_1 = m(x - x_1) \)
Rate of change - the ratio of how one quantity changes in relation to another quantity
Slope intercept form - a linear equation in the form \( y = mx +b \)
Standard form - a linear equation in the form \( Ax + By = C \)
x-intercept - where a graph crosses the x-axis
y-intercept - where a graph crosses the y-axis
